Ukraine and Canada have officially launched a new partnership in the fields of geology and mineral resource management. The agreement, signed between the State Service of Geology and Subsoil of Ukraine and the Geological Survey of Canada, aims to strengthen scientific cooperation, modernize geological data, and enhance investment in Ukraine’s mineral sector.
The two-year cooperation plan includes the creation of a joint Ukrainian-Canadian Coordination Committee on Mineral Resources. This body will serve as a platform for joint initiatives, experience exchange, and the introduction of modern management practices in natural resource governance.
The partnership focuses on several strategic priorities: developing geological research, increasing the investment appeal of the mineral sector, digitizing and systematizing geological data, translating it into English, and building a digital archive of geological maps and metadata. Both sides will also collaborate on exploring critical mineral deposits vital for their respective economies and promote research results internationally to attract strategic investors.
According to Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine Yehor Perelyhin, this agreement marks a major step forward. Canada, being a global leader in geological research and sustainable resource management, provides Ukraine with invaluable expertise. The collaboration will drive data digitalization, improve resource information systems, and foster investor engagement in the extraction and processing of critical minerals.
The document was signed within the framework of the intergovernmental security cooperation agreement between Ukraine and Canada from February 24, 2024. This partnership supports Ukraine’s goal of creating a transparent, competitive, and modern mineral sector aligned with international standards — boosting both economic resilience and energy security.
