Ukraine has achieved a milestone by successfully synchronizing its energy system with the European grid, meeting the technical standards set by the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E). During a meeting in Brussels, Ukrenergo, the national power operator, received official confirmation from continental Europe’s system operators, recognizing the implementation of essential technical measures for seamless synchronization. ENTSO-E not only affirmed the synchronization but also increased the technical capacity for electricity imports from Europe to Ukraine and Moldova by 500 MW, totaling 1700 MW. The synchronization, initiated in March 2022 as a response to Russian aggression, enhances the resilience of Ukraine’s energy system and opens avenues for further cooperation with ENTSO-E, including joint energy security systems and a unified electricity market with Europe. CEO Volodymyr Kudrytskyi highlighted the significance of this achievement in ensuring stability during cold spells and potential threats to energy facilities.
