The European Investment Bank expressed readiness to take part in rebuilding Mariupol, according to the city council, UNIAN reported on July 4, 2022. The announcement came during the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Lugano, Switzerland.
EIB representative Markus Berndt pointed to the bank's previous work supporting hospitals, kindergartens and other facilities, and said destroyed infrastructure should be rebuilt to a higher standard.
Mariupol Mayor Vadym Boychenko described extensive damage to housing and municipal infrastructure and said the city was developing a comprehensive recovery plan.
The expression of support was a commitment to participate in future reconstruction, not confirmation that work had already begun in the occupied city.
