Ukraine had spent nearly one trillion hryvnias from the state budget since Russia's full-scale invasion began on February 24, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said at a government meeting on August 23, 2022.

More than 420 billion hryvnias had gone to defence and security, amounting to over 40% of the reported spending. Shmyhal identified 288 billion hryvnias for military salaries and 135 billion for purchasing and repairing military equipment, ammunition and defence products.

The figures were the prime minister's account of expenditure during the wartime period. The nearly one-trillion-hryvnia total covered state-budget spending overall, not exclusively military expenditure.
