A UNESCO mission has commenced its evaluation in Chernihiv, Ukraine, to assess the impact of Russian missile strikes on local cultural landmarks. The Ukrainian Culture Ministry revealed that the mission, which arrived on October 30, aims to collect data on damaged sites, such as the Pyatnytska Church, Antoniev Caves, and Chernihiv regional Music and Drama Theatre. These landmarks suffered damage during a ballistic missile strike on August 19, resulting in casualties and injuries. Following the assessment, a comprehensive restoration plan will be developed for the affected cultural treasures. Additionally, in April 2023, Ukraine sought UNESCO’s recognition of World Heritage status for the historical center of Chernihiv.
