Ukraine is forming what it describes as the world’s first drone attack companies as part of the Army of Drones project, the General Staff said on January 27, 2023, Ukrainska Pravda reported.

Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi approved the creation of the companies at a meeting of the General Staff. A coordination headquarters was set up with the Defence Ministry, the General Staff and the State Service of Special Communications to implement the project.
Drones and Starlink
The commander of each company will receive drones, ammunition, Starlink terminals and other necessary equipment. “We have already selected the most professional servicemen to lead the attack companies,” the General Staff said.
The General Staff said the companies were needed as part of key reforms and to increase drone production for the Defence Forces.
Army of Drones
The Army of Drones project, launched in 2022 by the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the General Staff and the United24 fundraising platform, raises money to buy drones for the military and trains operators. Drones have become one of the defining weapons of the war, used for reconnaissance, correcting artillery fire and striking Russian positions and equipment.
