Lausanne, Switzerland, will be the venue for the Ukraine Mine Action Conference (UMAC2024) on October 17-18. The event, co-organized by Switzerland and Ukraine, will bring together high-ranking officials, international organizations, private sector leaders, and academics.

Swiss President Viola Amherd and Foreign Affairs Head Ignazio Cassis will open the conference, focusing on the global dimensions of humanitarian demining. The conference will spotlight three main pillars: people, partners, and progress, addressing the critical issues of mine action and technological innovations.

Ukraine faces significant challenges, with an estimated quarter of its territory contaminated by mines and unexploded ordnance. In response, the Swiss government has approved a four-year aid package of CHF 100 million (US$118 million) dedicated to humanitarian demining efforts. Additionally, Switzerland is supporting programs for mine victims and farmers affected by land contamination.
