Trump ally says Ukraine focus must be peace, not territory

Bryan Lanza, a senior advisor to President-Elect Donald Trump, said the incoming administration will aim to focus on achieving peace in Ukraine rather than enabling the country to gain back territory occupied by Russia. Lanza stated that if Zelensky were to demand peace if Crimea were returned then “he shows us that he’s not serious” and added, “Crimea is gone”.

Russian army used chemical weapons 323 times in October, Ukraine’s General Staff says

Russian forces used chemical weapons on the battlefield 323 times in October, Ukraine’s General Staff reported. Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, radiation, chemical, and biological intelligence units have been recording the use of hazardous chemicals on the battlefield. Since February 2022, 4,613 cases have been recorded. Russia’s use of chemical munitions “flagrantly violates the rules of warfare, ignores the norms and obligations under the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling, and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction,” the General Staff said.

Biden team prepares to rush last-minute aid to Ukraine

The Biden administration is planning to rush the last of the over $6 billion remaining in Ukraine’s security assistance before the inauguration of President-Elect Donald Trump. There are problems facing Biden’s administration as it usually takes months for munitions and equipment to reach Ukraine so anything rolled out in the next weeks won’t arrive until well into Trump’s Presidency and there are fears Trump could halt the shipments before they reach Ukraine.

A draft of the peace deal Russia offered to Ukraine at the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022 was leaked. Obtained by RFE/FL, the unilateral terms of the document effectively meant Kyiv’s capitulation. It called for Ukraine to reduce its army, to recognise the independence of the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk republics, and to not to produce, acquire or deploy missile weapons with a firing range of more than 250km.

Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment, November 1, 2024

Patriarch Kirill, head of the Kremlin-controlled Russian Orthodox Church Moscow Patriarchate (ROC MP), highlighted ongoing social and ideological divides within Russian society while reiterating boilerplate justifications for the war in Ukraine.
