Ukrainians should brace for prolonged power outages lasting from 4 to 18 hours per day this winter, as a result of coordinated Russian attacks on the country\u2019s energy infrastructure, according to a recent UN report. The strikes, which occurred between March and August, targeted energy facilities across 20 regions, including Kyiv, and significantly weakened the country\u2019s power generation capacity.<\/p>\n

Danielle Bell, head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, presented the findings during a report on the consequences of these attacks for civilians. She highlighted that this year\u2019s assault on energy infrastructure was more complex and widespread compared to last winter. While previous attacks focused on damaging transmission systems, the strikes in 2024 have primarily aimed at disabling power generation sites, leading to a sharp decline in Ukraine\u2019s ability to produce and supply electricity.<\/p>\n
