In a remarkable display of air defense capabilities, Ukraine successfully intercepted a Russian missile and 42 Shahed-type kamikaze drones overnight on September 19, 2024. According to the Ukrainian Air Force Command, radars detected 46 hostile air targets during the night, targeting various regions across Ukraine.

The invaders launched three S-300/S-400 missiles from Belgorod and a Kh-59/69 guided missile from the occupied Zaporizhzhia region, aimed at the Kharkiv region. In addition, 42 drones were sent from Primorsk-Akhtarsk and Kursk regions. Despite the intensity of the attack, Ukrainian air defense systems managed to shoot down the missile and all 42 drones.

Air defense efforts were activated in multiple regions, including Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, and Kherson, preventing further damage and protecting civilians from potential harm.

This successful defense underscores Ukraine’s growing capability to counter Russian attacks.
