On September 21, Ukraine’s SBU Security Service executed a strategic strike on the Shaykovka military airfield located in Russia’s Kaluga Oblast. This operation, reported by Hromadske, not only targeted the airfield but also two significant Russian arsenals.
The Shaykovka airfield is a crucial site housing Tu-22M strategic bombers, which have been instrumental in Russia’s missile strikes against Ukraine. The SBU’s actions were part of a broader campaign to diminish the enemy’s military capabilities. Footage from the scene, shared on Hromadske’s Telegram channel, captures the dramatic explosion as seen from a passing vehicle.
In a coordinated effort, the Ukrainian General Staff confirmed that the attack on Shaykovka followed a successful strike on an arsenal in Tihoretsk, Krasnodar Krai. This facility, identified as the third-largest supply depot for the Russian military, was reported to be storing North Korean KN23 missiles at the time of the attack. Ukrainian forces were able to intercept a train carrying over 2,000 tons of ammunition, including those supplies.
The strikes also targeted the Podlyot radar station, crucial for detecting aerial threats, thereby further crippling Russian military operations. Reports indicate that fires and detonations have been observed in the vicinity of both military arsenals, signifying the impact of Ukraine’s well-coordinated offensive.
This operation underscores Ukraine’s commitment to countering Russian aggression and dismantling its military infrastructure, reflecting a strategic shift in the ongoing conflict.
