The List of Kidnappers of Ukrainian Children Includes About 500 Individuals and Legal Entities

The War and Sanctions portal, a joint project by the Center for Countering Disinformation and the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, lists approximately 500 individuals and entities involved in child abductions, with the list set to expand soon. Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center, stated that over 300 individuals and more than 100 entities are currently listed. Verification is ongoing for additional individuals, who will be added once it is confirmed. Additionally, the portal features the "Kremlin Mouthpieces" section targeting Russian propagandists, including those recruiting children from temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories. Currently, there are 58 members, and 15 more are under verification. This section aims to grow as information is meticulously verified before inclusion. The lists are shared with international partners to impose sanctions and with international courts for legal actions. On March 17, 2023, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Vladimir Putin and Maria Lvova-Belova, accusing them of war crimes related to the illegal deportation and transfer of children from occupied Ukrainian territories since February 24, 2022. Russian forces targeting orphans, single people , and children of parents with disabilities for mobilization .

The Yellow Ribbon movement has reported that Russian forces and Russian-installed authorities in the temporarily occupied territories are targeting orphans, single people, and children of parents with disabilities for mobilization as they are ‘least likely to be missed’. The involvement of people in temporarily occupied territories (TOT) with the occupying military forces against their own people is a great crime of the Russian leadership. The System That Sends Ukrainian Children to War Against Their Own Country

The System That Sends Ukrainian Children to War Against Their Own Country

Since the 2014 annexation of Crimea, Russia has systematically militarized Ukrainian children in occupied territories through programs that combine ideological indoctrination and combat training. Schools enforce Russian curricula, erasing Ukrainian identity, while children are subjected to daily propaganda, military parades, and activities glorifying Russian soldiers. These multifaceted efforts aim to mould children as young as 8 into instruments of Russia’s war machine, stripping them of their identities, and ultimately sending them to fight against their homeland.

Ukrainian startups cut demining time by centuries with new tech

Russia’s full-scale invasion has made Ukraine the most heavily mined country in the world, endangering the lives of its people for generations. A report by Globsec estimates that clearing Ukraine with current resources could take over 700 years. However, Ukrainian officials aim to de-mine 80% of the potentially hazardous land within the next decade. With support from the UNDP Mine Action Programme, innovative Ukrainian startups propose faster solutions, leveraging satellite imagery and drones to detect explosives remotely. Once Ukraine’s demining needs are met, these startups plan to share their advanced technology with other nations facing similar challenges.
