Termination of Russian gas transit one of Moscow’s biggest defeats – Zelensky
por Kyiv Center for Defense Policy | Ene 1, 2025 | Economía | 0 |
“When Putin was presented with the Russian presidency more than 25 years ago, the annual gas transit through Ukraine to Europe totaled more than 130 billion cubic meters. Today, it equals 0. This is one of Moscow’s biggest defeats. As a result of Russia weaponizing energy and resorting to cynical blackmail of partners, Moscow lost one of the most profitable and geographically accessible markets” – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

In a New Year address, President Vladimir Putin told Russians that the country would move forward with confidence in 2025, though he offered no specific promises on the economy or the war in Ukraine. At a time when many ordinary people are worried about rising prices and the central bank’s 21% interest rate is squeezing businesses and homebuyers, Putin reassured Russians that their well-being was his top priority.

Yesterday, Ukraine surpassed day 1000 of what the Kremlin thought would be a 3-day full-scale war. As we all know, the war started long before that. Ukraine has bravely resisted attack upon attack upon attack for almost 4,000 days. And democracy still stands. In fact, it’s stronger than ever. The Ukrainians have proved to themselves and to the world there is NOTHING they can’t do. They CAN outlast, and they CAN out-suffer the Russians. Anyone who does not see that has not been paying attention. All they need is our help. And we have it within ourselves to continue and ramp up our support to Ukraine and at the same time ramp up our own deterrence and defence” – NATO Military Committee Chair, Admiral Rob Bauer.

While Russian President Vladimir Putin’s maximalist objectives demanding full Ukrainian capitulation remain unchanged, a prominent Kremlin-affiliated mil blogger appears to be trying to repackage long standing Kremlin territorial claims to southern Ukraine as less severe “peace proposals” that would militarily threaten Ukraine, Moldova, and NATO.- ISW

Russian President Vladimir Putin does not want Kursk to be used as a bargaining chip, nor does he want to be forced to relinquish any of the Ukrainian territory he has captured since Russia’s invasion. Putin’s recent mentions that any deal needs to reflect the “realities on the ground” refers to Russia’s hopes to recapture Kursk – The Washington Post

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on August 19 further codifying a vague Russian state ideology into Russian law without concretely modifying the Russian Constitution. Putin’s effort to codify a specific ideology may be intended to counter the Russian ultranationalist community’s efforts to establish an accepted national ideology – ISW.

por Kyiv Center for Defense Policy | Ago 11, 2024 | Guerra | 0 |
Ukraine’s Kursk offensive poses serious questions about the credibility of Russia’s sabre-rattling and the rationality behind the West’s abundance of caution, as it is surely the reddest of all red lines. If Russia was at all serious about a possible nuclear escalation, this would be the moment to make good on its many threats. Putin has responded by seeking to downplay the invasion while pretending that everything is still going according to plan – The Atlantic Council.
