For over two years, Russia has been brutally shelling Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, including hospitals. The enemy daily attacks outpatient clinics, maternity wards, and polyclinics, and also kills and terrorizes Ukrainian doctors.
Violating all the norms of the Geneva Conventions, since the beginning of the war, the Russians have damaged 1,663 medical facilities and completely destroyed another 222. The greatest losses were suffered by medical facilities in the Kharkiv, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhia regions. It is currently impossible to obtain comprehensive information on the extent of damage to hospitals in the temporarily occupied territories. In addition, at this time, the Russians have damaged 221 emergency medical vehicles, destroyed 261, and captured 125.
Restoring the medical infrastructure is a priority for the state. Throughout Ukraine, the Ministry, together with partners, continues to work on the restoration of damaged medical infrastructure and the reconstruction of hospitals in order to provide Ukrainians with the most necessary medical services. Thanks to the reconstruction of institutions, doctors continue to provide medical care, and patients receive unhindered access to necessary services. 532 medical facilities have already been fully restored and another 353 – partially. The largest number of facilities has been restored in Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions. These are medical facilities that were liberated from occupation, as well as those that suffered minor damage: broken windows, destruction of the roof, damage to the facade, etc. Restoration work will continue.
We will remind you that recently in the Kharkiv region, as part of cooperation between the Ministry of Health and WHO, a new modular clinic was installed to replace the destroyed one.
