Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksandr Lytvynenko announced the drafting of an additional 160,000 individuals into the armed forces, aiming to raise military unit manning to 85%. This initiative is part of ongoing mobilization efforts to address troop casualties and rotate soldiers in the ongoing conflict. Since martial law began, over 1,000,050 citizens have been drafted. The updated mobilization law, introduced in April, facilitates identifying conscripts and imposes penalties for draft evasion. Military-aged men were given a 60-day period to update their personal information, with 4,690,496 complying by the July deadline. As of mid-August, nearly one million individuals were eligible for exemption. To improve the exemption process, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal directed ministries to establish fairer rules for employees in critical sectors, allowing them to extend their military service exemptions.
