The British Army has successfully trialed the Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapon (RFDEW), a groundbreaking system that can neutralize drone swarms using radio waves for under 10p per shot. Capable of targeting threats up to 1km away, the RFDEW is a significant advancement in military technology developed by Thales UK and its partners. Unlike traditional missile defense systems, the RFDEW disrupts the electronics of hostile devices. This trial marks a milestone for the Armed Forces and underscores the UK’s commitment to advancing directed energy weapon technology. Defense Minister Maria Eagle highlighted the collaborative efforts behind the project, which supports about 135 skilled jobs and aligns with government initiatives to enhance operational capabilities. Thales officials expressed excitement over the weapon’s potential as ongoing trials aim to refine its use.
