Nich\u00e9e au c\u0153ur de la ville, cette cath\u00e9drale n'est pas seulement un point de rep\u00e8re majeur, elle rev\u00eat \u00e9galement une signification profonde en tant qu'ancienne cath\u00e9drale m\u00e8re de l'\u00c9glise orthodoxe ukrainienne - le patriarcat de Kiev.<\/p>\n<p>La cr\u00e9ation de la cath\u00e9drale Saint-Volodymyr remonte \u00e0 1852, lorsque le m\u00e9tropolite Philar\u00e8te de Moscou a propos\u00e9 l'id\u00e9e de construire une grande cath\u00e9drale pour comm\u00e9morer le 900e anniversaire du bapt\u00eame de la Rus' de Kyivan par le prince Volodymyr le Grand. L'initiative a suscit\u00e9 un immense soutien de la part de la population de tout l'Empire russe, ce qui a permis de r\u00e9unir un fonds substantiel de 100 000 roubles en 1859. La laure Pechersk de Kiev, un monast\u00e8re renomm\u00e9, a apport\u00e9 une contribution importante en fournissant un million de briques pour la construction.<\/p>\n<p>La vision architecturale, initialement con\u00e7ue par des architectes tels que I. Schtrom, P. Sparro, R. Bemhardt, K. Mayevsky et V. Nikolayev, a abouti \u00e0 la conception n\u00e9o-byzantine que nous connaissons aujourd'hui. Elles ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9es de main de ma\u00eetre par Robert Bakh et H. Zaieman, respectivement. L'iconostase complexe, taill\u00e9e dans du marbre blanc import\u00e9 de Carrare, ajoute \u00e0 la grandeur de la cath\u00e9drale.
