The Crimean Tatar Resource Center has reported that Russia actively practices religious persecution on the peninsula. 117 individuals are currently at some stage of persecution. Russia has accused Crimean Tatars of being members of Hizb ut-Tahrir, who are banned in Russia as a terrorist organization but operate legally in Ukraine.

Ukraine has repatriated 1002 children from the temporarily occupied territories and Russia, largely thanks to international assistance. Attempts to locate approximately 19,000 forcibly relocated children continue, according to Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner, Dmytro Lubinets.

Bryan Lanza, a senior advisor to President-Elect Donald Trump, said the incoming administration will aim to focus on achieving peace in Ukraine rather than enabling the country to gain back territory occupied by Russia. Lanza stated that if Zelensky were to demand peace if Crimea were returned then “he shows us that he’s not serious” and added, “Crimea is gone”.

As of 2025, Ukrainians with diabetes, bronchial asthma, and other illnesses in the occupied territories will lose access to free medications unless they acquire Russian passports, according to the Eastern Human Rights Group. This practice is already enforced in many of the occupied territories.
