Ukraine dramatically expanded the scale of its unmanned warfare capabilities in 2025, with FPV drone deliveries to the Armed Forces rising almost two and a half times compared with the previous year. By the end of 2025, the military was expected to receive around 3 million FPV drones, equivalent to roughly one drone every ten seconds of the year. Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal described unmanned systems as an increasingly important element of modern combat and said expanding their production had become a central priority for Ukraine\u2019s defense industry. The increase reflects Kyiv\u2019s broader effort to gain a technological advantage on a battlefield where inexpensive, adaptable systems can perform roles previously requiring more costly weapons or greater exposure of personnel.<\/p>\n
Domestic production has been crucial to the expansion. Most of the FPV drones supplied to Ukrainian forces were manufactured inside Ukraine, allowing the military to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers while making it easier for producers to modify equipment in response to changing frontline requirements. The Defense Procurement Agency emerged as the principal supplier during the year, delivering about 2.4 million FPV drones, largely through direct contracts with Ukrainian manufacturers. Another 200,000 unmanned aerial vehicles were supplied through the DOT-Chain Defence digital procurement system introduced in late July. The system was designed to shorten bureaucratic procedures and accelerate the movement of equipment from manufacturers to combat units.<\/p>\n
Ukraine\u2019s technological expansion has also extended beyond aerial drones. Nearly 15,000 unmanned ground systems were delivered to the Armed Forces during 2025, representing a several-fold increase over the previous year. These robotic platforms are being used for ammunition and logistical transport, reconnaissance, medical evacuation, mine-laying, demining and patrol operations. Some are fitted with combat modules and have already been deployed in offensive and defensive missions. Their value is particularly evident in areas exposed to constant Russian drone surveillance and attack, where sending personnel can carry extreme risks. Ukrainian troops have used robotic ground vehicles to evacuate wounded soldiers, recover damaged equipment and retrieve valuable drones from dangerous areas. Together, the rapid growth of aerial and ground systems illustrates Ukraine\u2019s effort to combine mass production, domestic innovation and faster procurement in order to adapt more quickly to the realities of modern warfare.<\/p>\n
