French President Emmanuel Macron spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 19, 2022 about nuclear safety and security at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, according to the Élysée.
Macron expressed concern about the risks at the site and supported sending International Atomic Energy Agency experts as soon as possible, under conditions agreed by Ukraine and the United Nations.

The statement described agreement on a proposed mission, not confirmation that inspectors had already arrived, that the plant had been demilitarised, or that the wider safety risks had been resolved.
