Russia has experienced a significant loss of military personnel, with more than 1,000 troops lost daily from June 1 to June 22, 2026. This marks the first such occurrence since March 2025, as reported by Ukrainian outlet NV, which analyzed daily updates from Ukraine’s General Staff.
Throughout June, Ukrainian forces consistently reported Russian troop losses ranging from 1,130 to 1,550 each day. Notably, only three days within this period recorded losses slightly exceeding 1,100. The most substantial losses occurred on June 5, with 1,550 Russian soldiers reported killed or wounded. On the same day, Ukraine successfully repatriated 185 service members from Russian captivity.
Conversely, the lowest daily loss figure was recorded on June 3, with Ukraine estimating Russian losses at 1,130 troops. This coincided with Russian forces launching an attack on Kostiantynivka using banned phosphorus munitions.
The last instance of Russia’s daily personnel losses consistently exceeding 1,000 for nearly a month was observed in March 2025, with a similar pattern noted in February 2025. From June 1 to June 22, 2026, Russia’s estimated personnel losses amounted to approximately 29,080 troops.
As of Monday, June 22, Ukraine’s General Staff estimated that Russia’s total personnel losses since the onset of the full-scale invasion have reached around 1,393,140 troops, encompassing both those killed and wounded. Earlier assessments by NATO officials suggested that Russia has suffered between 1.3 and 1.45 million total casualties, including approximately 500,000 deaths, since the beginning of the invasion.
