The European Union would mobilise an additional €5 million to preserve Ukraine's cultural heritage, European Commission Vice-President Margaritis Schinas announced during a visit to Ukraine on September 1, 2022.
European Pravda reported that Schinas described culture as a deliberate target of Russian aggression rather than merely collateral damage. He thanked Ukrainian Culture Minister Oleksandr Tkachenko for efforts to protect cultural heritage and commemorate victims.
The announcement concerned additional support for preservation. The report did not set out a detailed allocation among individual sites or confirm that the entire amount had already been disbursed.
Schinas separately announced €10 million to support safe learning spaces and distance education. That education funding was distinct from the €5 million cultural-heritage commitment.
