The Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate has reported significant troop movements and ongoing military strategies by Russian forces. Vadym Skibitsky, a representative of the Directorate, shared these insights during a national telethon broadcast. According to Skibitsky, Russian forces are completing the regrouping of their troops. All battalion-tactical groups that were previously concentrated in Belarus near Ukraine’s northern borders are now being redeployed to eastern Ukraine. This strategic shift is aimed at identifying the most vulnerable positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to initiate a large-scale offensive, particularly in the Donetsk operational area.

Addressing reports about the alleged cessation of the assault on the Azovstal plant in Mariupol, Skibitsky clarified that, according to military intelligence, the Russian leadership is not being truthful. While they might refrain from a full-scale assault on this specific site, plans are in place to involve the Russian National Guard and other units, including FSB structures, to continue the offensive against the Azovstal plant. The objective remains to dismantle the Ukrainian resistance at this critical location.

In related developments, Ukraine’s Minister for the Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories, Iryna Vereshchuk, expressed hope that evacuations from Mariupol could commence on April 23. The city continues to be defended by the Azov Regiment, Ukrainian marines, and motorized infantry, who are steadfast in their resistance.
