The Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) has announced the launch of a new online platform named ‘Occupant’. This resource aims to provide real-time information about Russian military personnel captured during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022.

The platform is designed to be accessible to Russian citizens, including the families and acquaintances of soldiers, offering them details on the status and location of prisoners of war. Through the portal’s services, relatives of Russian POWs can communicate with representatives from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.

The NSDC emphasizes that the treatment of Russian servicemen adheres to the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War. This includes provisions for adequate food, clothing, medical care, and humane living conditions.

On February 24, Russia initiated a new phase of aggression against Ukraine, launching a full-scale invasion. The assault has involved extensive shelling and bombing of peaceful Ukrainian cities and villages. Ukrainian defense forces have been actively resisting the Russian military, inflicting significant losses. From February 24 to May 13, Ukrainian defenders have reportedly eliminated approximately 26,900 Russian invaders.
