Russian occupying authorities in Mariupol have resumed distributing food as compensation for work, according to Petro Andryushchenko, an adviser to the city’s mayor. UNIAN reported his allegations on June 5, 2022.

Andryushchenko said aid had been sharply reduced and was being provided without work requirements only to elderly residents. Other residents, he said, were required to work to receive assistance.

He also alleged that young people were being pressured into brigades supporting mobile patrols and filtration measures. Those who refused risked being conscripted into the forces of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, according to his account.

The report follows his June 3 warning that occupying authorities were tightening filtration controls, restricting movement between districts and preventing residents from leaving. These allegations are attributed to the mayoral adviser; the article does not independently verify each claim.
