Vladimir Putin announced that the Russian Armed Forces acquired around 140,000 drones of various types in 2023 and plans to increase production tenfold this year. During a meeting of the Russian Military-Industrial Commission focused on unmanned aerial systems, he highlighted the intention to broaden the range of unmanned systems and develop crewless boats. Putin emphasized the importance of rapidly mass-producing innovative drone technology and creating forward-looking reserves to anticipate future drone operational tasks.

He indicated that 48 special research and production centers will be established across various regions by 2030 to facilitate the design, testing, and mass production of drones.
