Russia could be using deportations and forced relocations to change the demographic composition of parts of Ukraine, British UN Ambassador Barbara Woodward warned at the Security Council, Ukrinform reported on September 8, 2022.
Woodward expressed concern over filtration camps established in Russian-occupied territory and called on Moscow to provide the UN and relevant international organisations full, unhindered access to people held in the camps and centres.
The Security Council met at the request of the United States and Albania to discuss forced deportations of Ukrainian citizens.
The report conveyed the ambassador's warning about possible intent. It did not present a final judicial finding on demographic engineering or independently quantify the number of people affected.
