The hacker collective Anonymous has announced a successful breach of Russian streaming platforms Wink and Ivi, akin to Netflix, as well as live broadcasts on state television channels such as “Russia 24”, “Channel One”, and “Moscow 24”. The group aimed to broadcast footage of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
According to Anonymous, all Russian state television channels have been compromised. Instead of regular programming, viewers were shown images and videos depicting the war in Ukraine. The group also shared images on Twitter, revealing messages displayed during the broadcast, urging ordinary Russians to oppose the war in Ukraine and to stand against the genocide allegedly perpetrated by the Russian Federation.
The message conveyed by Anonymous stated, “We are ordinary citizens of Russia. We stand against the war on Ukrainian territory. Russia and its people are against the war! This conflict has been initiated by the criminal, authoritarian regime of Putin in the name of ordinary Russian citizens. Russians, stand against the genocide in Ukraine.”
For context, Anonymous is an international collective of hackers and cyber specialists who engage in cyber warfare against governments, political structures, and elites worldwide for political reasons.
