Until recently, some of Ukraine’s air defense systems were operating without the necessary missiles. However, the much-needed ammunition has now arrived, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He shared this update during a press conference following his meeting with Czech President Petr Pavel on January 16.

Zelenskyy emphasized the vast array of air defense systems Ukraine has received since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion. These systems are in constant need of missile supplies. He noted that the challenge is not confined to the Patriot systems, which he described as perpetually insufficient.

“Today, thank God, in the morning we received a serious package. It is now in Ukraine, I can speak about it. But it comes at a cost—with force, blood, and lives of people, etc.,” Zelenskyy stated. He acknowledged the recent difficulties Ukraine faced due to shortages of various missile types.

“For example, until this morning, we had several air defense systems without missiles. Today I can speak openly about this because today I have these missiles,” he explained. Zelenskyy highlighted that each missile shipment must be sourced from European and American countries, stressing that the situation should not be solely attributed to the United States. He pointed out that the issue involves all systems protecting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

In a related development, Zelenskyy mentioned that international efforts targeting Russia’s shadow fleet of sanctioned oil tankers have already disrupted the operations of at least 20% of these vessels. This has dealt a significant blow to Moscow’s oil exports and its ability to finance the war.
